Biographie
**Amanda Catherine Crew** (born June 5, 1986) is a Canadian actress. Known for her grounded presence, emotional range, and comedic timing, she achieved international recognition for her starring role as venture capitalist Monica Hall on the critically acclaimed HBO comedy series *Silicon Valley* (2014 to 2019). Born in Langley, British Columbia, Crew developed an interest in the performing arts as a child. She began acting in local musical theatre productions during elementary school and trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. She launched her professional career on Canadian television, earning early recognition with regular roles as Tanis McTaggart in the teen tennis drama *15/Love* (2005 to 2006) and snowboarder Carrie Miller in the CTV drama series *Whistler* (2006 to 2008), which earned her a Leo Award for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series. She transitioned into feature films with a supporting role in the supernatural horror hit *Final Destination 3* (2006). Soon after, she took on leading roles across mainstream studio comedies and dramas, including the road trip teen comedy *Sex Drive* (2008) alongside Josh Zuckerman and Clark Duke, the supernatural thriller *The Haunting in Connecticut* (2009), and the romantic fantasy drama *Charlie St. Cloud* (2010) opposite Zac Efron. She also starred in independent Canadian cinema, winning another Leo Award for her performance in the drama *Sisters & Brothers* (2011). Crew landed her signature role in 2014 when she was cast as Monica Hall in Mike Judge's *Silicon Valley*. As the shrewd, pragmatic venture capitalist and principal ally to the Pied Piper startup team, she served as the emotional and rational anchor amid the chaotic eccentricities of the tech incubator. Her performance won the Golden Maple Award for Best Actress in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S. and earned her widespread critical appreciation throughout the show's six-season run. Her subsequent film credits include the romantic fantasy *The Age of Adaline* (2015), the Jesse Owens biopic *Race* (2016), the wedding comedy *Table 19* (2017), the acclaimed science-fiction thriller *Freaks* (2018), the crime thriller *Target Number One* (2020), and the Blumhouse horror film *There's Something Wrong with the Children* (2023). Balancing independent drama, commercial genre films, and character-driven television, she remains a prominent and versatile Canadian talent across the North American screen landscape.
